A "private Facebook" platform for Egyptian activists
Our company is currently developing a "private Facebook" platform.
A private Facebook platform is where all users' data reside on the users' own local PCs, and all communications and file transfers between trusted users are carried out directly from your PC to your trusted user's PC without going through any intermediary server. Basically, it melds the P2P infrastructure of Skype with the social networking features of Facebook.
Since Facebook is banned in countries like China that have strong censorship policies, this private Facebook platform would be an effective way to circumvent the ban, because the platform uses no central servers that can be blocked.
I'm not sure if Facebook is also banned in Egypt. Even if t's not, another application would be for the Egyptian activist community to use it as a private and secure social networking platform, where their personal content and conversations will not be subject to the prying eyes of the government. So, you can use our private Facebook platform to organize various activities privately.
I'm not sure if such a platform would be useful to the Egyptian activisits? If so, please indicate by voting, and if there's sufficient interest, I will be happy to demo an engineering version of the software during a breakout session.
